Wallpaper* Appoints Anthony Thornton as Digital Director
Wallpaper*, the international design, fashion and lifestyle title, has appointed Anthony Thornton as digital director to lead its global digital expansion.
Anthony joins Wallpaper* from the BFI where he was head of digital content, responsible for making its website the most-visited of any UK cultural institution. Anthony’s new position at Wallpaper* marks a return to Time Inc. UK, formerly IPC Media, where he held a range of senior positions. As editor of NME.com, Anthony was awarded digital editor of the year twice by the BSME and once by the PPA. He was also digital director for the company’s men’s brands and later digital director for upmarket women’s brands including Marie Claire and InStyle.
Anthony will be responsible for all digital activity, including Wallpaper’s award-winning website; social channels, which already attract more than 4 million followers; its ecommerce proposition WallpaperSTORE*; and new opportunities around the world.
Wallpaper* editor-in-chief Tony Chambers says: “Anthony is a journalist of vast experience, flair and digital know-how. We can’t wait to get working together to amplify Wallpaper’s standing as THE global digital luxury powerhouse.”
Anthony Thornton says: “In a world where ‘iconic’ is thrown around far too casually, Wallpaper* is the real deal: a truly iconic and innovative global brand. I cannot wait to work with such a talented and fired-up team. It’s a pleasure to be joining Wallpaper* at a key point and be given the opportunity to contribute to its growing success.”
