Time Out and Intrepid Travel have launched Best Cities 2026, the first initiative from a new strategic partnership between the two organisations.
The index ranks cities based on feedback from more than 24,000 residents worldwide, combined with insights from Time Out’s editorial teams and expert network. The project aims to provide a data-led view of the urban destinations that resonate most strongly with residents and culturally engaged audiences.
The 2026 list places Melbourne in the top position, followed by Shanghai, Edinburgh, London and New York.
According to the research, the ranking highlights cities that perform strongly across areas such as cultural activity, accessibility and quality of life. These factors are increasingly shaping how audiences choose and experience cities, and provide insight for travel, tourism and brand partners looking to engage urban audiences.
The initiative forms part of a broader partnership between Time Out and Intrepid Travel, which will include editorial content across Time Out’s digital platforms and a live activation in London scheduled for June.
